Throughout the year, we offer special events, retreats, milestone celebrations, and camps designed to deepen faith, build friendships, and celebrate every child in our community.
Many of our events are open to the community. These events make a great opportunity to invite a neighbor, friend, or family member to experience Oak Grove.
Children’s Ministry at Oak Grove is about more than Sunday mornings.

Seasonal Events
Our seasonal events are open to children of all ages. Friends and neighbors are always welcome! Our typical seasonal events include:
Easter Egg Hunt: Find 5000+ eggs, and stick around for snacks and crafts, a puppet show, and the Easter Bunny.
Trunk or Treat: Don a costume and visit themed trunks for Halloween candy.
Children’s Friendsgiving: Children gather to eat, play games, and talk about being grateful to God for all we have been entrusted with. Children are welcome to bring a nut-free dish to share.
Children’s Christmas Event: Each year, we celebrate with crafts, a movie, and a mission project – all in our PJs.. Families can bring a nut-free picnic dinner or pre-order a meal.
Christmas Eve Worship: For Children, By Children: Children in 3rd-5th grade present the story of Jesus’ birth in the sanctuary with costume, readings, songs, and art. Children interested in participating must be registered by mid-November.

Milestone Celebrations
Here are the milestone events in the faith life of a child we look forward to each year:
Bibles for Young Children: Young children receive their first Bible.
Third Grade Bibles & Luncheon: Third graders receive a Bible in Worship at 10:45 or 11 AM, followed by Luncheon from 12-1:15 PM hosted by our 4th and 5th graders.
School Recognition Sunday: We recognize the ministry of the Christian School & celebrate our beloved OGUMC Christian School teachers in worship.
New Baby Celebration & Reception: We celebrate all the new babies in our community in worship. A reception follows worship in Grand Hall.
Baptism: Baptism is a sacred milestone for children and families at OGUMC. Contact Rachel Fullerton at rfullerton@ogumc.org to learn more.

Parents’ Night Out
Need an evening to recharge? Parents’ Night Out (PNO) gives parents a few hours off while children enjoy a supervised, fun evening with our Children’s Ministry team.
For children ages 2 through 5th grade.
Event-specific registration and payment is required: $15.00/child and no more than $45/ family
A pizza and sides dinner will be served.

Vacation Bible School (VBS)
VBS is one of the most beloved weeks of summer at Oak Grove, packed with music, Bible stories, crafts, games, and new friends. VBS is open to the whole community.
For completed Pre-K through 4th grade for the 2026-2027 school year (rising K through 5th grade for the 2027-2028 school year)

Retreats and Workshops
We create experiences for specific periods of growth in a child’s life.
Flight 345 (3rd–5th Grade): A spring weekend retreat at Camp Glisson for upper elementary children where we will ask big questions and learn how to find answers through scripture, experience, tradition, and reason. What is a Christian? Who is Jesus? What are sacraments? What does it mean to be United Methodist? What is confirmation?
Faithology Retreat (3rd–5th Grade): A fall weekend retreat at Camp Glisson for upper elementary children. We explore faith stories from scripture along with science and nature. This retreat is always an action-packed fun time with worship, drama, music, crafts, ziplining into the lake and a campfire.
Grief Workshop for Children (All ages): Children’s Ministry offers a grief workshop for children who have lost someone they love. This loss may be recent or long past and still on their minds and hearts. Parents are encouraged to drop off their children for the workshop and return for a closing family activity. We use the following books to guide our time: The Memory Box, Popi’s All Souls Song, & Little Mole Finds Hope. This workshop is held in November and upon request at any time of the year.
Wonderfully Made, Loved by God: This program helps children understand their bodies, the changes they are going through, and how God loves them now and always. It will explain sexual anatomy, as well as the different aspects of puberty. Additionally, it will discuss the influence of social media on sexual desire and decision making. In between sessions, we will have games, hands-on creating, snacks, and lunch.
We have affiliations with other camps that use our campus or through the United Methodist Church’s North Georgia Conference.
Power Sports Camp: A high-energy summer camp experience for children ages 5-12 held in the afternoons of VBS to provide a full-day camp experience.
Camp Glisson: Glisson is part of the North Georgia Camp & Retreat Ministries of the United Methodist Church’s North Georgia Conference.
Theater Camp: Children’s theater camp for ages 5-14 is designed to allow children to learn basic techniques to use for any play. Working with partners their own age, they gain confidence as well as skill.
